Organizing Member of the coalition for literacy equity

In August of 2021, I attended a virtual conference called End Book Deserts, and was captivated with the organizers and their work.  This organization has morphed into an umbrella organization that will serve in a wide variety of ways to do the work of connecting underserved kids with books.  As an organizer of the new Coalition for Literacy Equity, I am inviting you and/or your organization to become a member.

This national alliance will be comprised of literacy advocates from schools, libraries, non-profits, publishers, authors/illustrators, universities, professional organizations, individual teachers and librarians, and more. We are united by the common goal of increasing book access, creating lifelong readers, and improving the literacy landscape for American children. At the 2021 conference Susan Neuman’s (2021) work was cited as a challenge to those of us with a passion for this work, “there has never been an effort to weave programs together into a collective, strategic goal: to ensure that children, particularly from economically distressed homes, own a personal book library.”

The website will continue to morph as it becomes more complete. I’m happy to answer any questions that you might have – and appreciate your support (in whatever way possible) in advance.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.
